95% of Coloradans say the cost of renting or buying a home is a problem and a majority support proposals that result in building more starter homes, condos, and apartments, so hardworking people can afford housing

DENVER - Colorado Governor Jared Polis applauded President Joe Biden’s housing-focused budget proposal to Congress.

“We need more housing now. President Biden’s budget proposal is laser-focused on building more housing now and bringing down costs for hardworking Coloradans. These efforts from the White House could complement Colorado’s plans to reduce housing costs, cut red tape, and build more homes people can afford, and I welcome President Biden’s push to build more housing and to bring down costs for Coloradans,” said Governor Jared Polis.

In remarks to the National League of Cities today, President Biden stated “The bottom line is we have to build, build, build. That's how we bring down housing costs for good.”

Just a few weeks ago, Governors from across the country shared housing solutions during a roundtable session with Republicans and Democrats at the National Governors Association (NGA), led by NGA Vice Chair Governor Polis in which Republican and Democratic Governors, including Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota, notably pointed out housing challenges across the country and offered various solutions to the housing crisis.

Governor Polis has sought to reduce housing costs and create more homes people can afford near where they work, play, and send their children to school. In his 2024 State of the State address, Governor Polis focused on the issues that matter most to Coloradans like reducing housing costs and expanding access to transit. Gov. Polis also released a housing and transit roadmap detailing important steps to create more housing now, expand transit options, save people money, and protect open spaces. Recently released polling shows that 95% of Coloradans say the cost of renting or buying a home is a problem and a majority support proposals that result in building more starter homes, condos, and apartments, so hardworking people can afford housing.
