DENVER - Today Governor Polis attended Voices of Rural Colorado to discuss progress in the state to support rural Coloradans including in making life more affordable, building more housing, combatting federal headwinds like tariffs, expanding transportation options, supporting farmers and producers, and more.

“Rural Colorado is the heart of who we are as a state, and I am proud of the work our state is doing to support rural communities. From repaving over 555 miles of rural roads in 2025, to lowering the cost of housing, and delivering mountain passenger rail, we are making important investments in every corner of our state. Despite federal barriers like tariffs and the President's punitive veto of funding for a critical water project for rural Eastern Colorado, and rejection of disaster relief for the Lee and Elk fires and flooding in Western Colorado, we are committed to moving forward to make life better for rural Coloradans,” said Governor Polis.

Governor Polis also spoke at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science’s “Science at a Crossroads: The Intersection of Politics and Policy” Symposium, highlighting Colorado’s innovative research community.

“Science generates groundbreaking innovation to improve our lives, and in Colorado, we continue to use a data-driven, science-based approach to deliver real results for Coloradans. By coming together and elevating the importance of the sciences, we can raise the bar to ensure that Colorado remains the best state for scientific research and discovery, including by continuing important investment in K-12 science and STEM education. I look forward to the discussion of how the state can help achieve this goal,” said Governor Polis.

Governor Polis also celebrated the ribbon cutting for the Food Bank of the Rockies new distribution center in Aurora. This 270,000 square foot facility will help Food Bank of the Rockies meet the growing demand, ensuring no Coloradan goes hungry.

“Food is a basic need that we share. Food Bank of the Rockies – like all food banks and pantries throughout Colorado – continues to help Coloradans who struggle to put food on the table, This new facility will support more hungry families in Colorado and I am thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of this state-of-the-art facility which will help so many Colorado families,” said Governor Polis.
