WASHINGTON D.C. - This week Governor Polis led the bipartisan National Governors Association Winter Meeting as Vice-Chair alongside the Chair, Utah Governor Spencer Cox. The Governor met with fellow Governors, President Biden and administration officials, and industry leaders.

“The bipartisan National Governors Association meeting is an opportunity for Governors from around the country to come together to discuss the issues impacting their states the most, including issues like housing, affordability, and the migrant crisis. I’m proud that Colorado is a model for the nation in so many ways, and during this meeting I had the opportunity to tout our work, while listening and learning from other Governors about how we can tackle the greatest issues facing our states,” said Governor Jared Polis.

While in Washington DC, Governor Polis spoke with other Governors about the migrant crisis and also met with Chief of Staff Jeff Zients and Secretary Mayorkas about the need for urgent federal action to secure our border. Governor Polis also spoke with White House officials and is urging his fellow Governors and Congress to support President Biden’s $106 billion dollar supplement funding request. This request includes $1.4 billion to aid interior states and cities like Denver and Colorado and would expedite work permits for people who are in the country and qualify and secure the border. To truly tackle this problem, we need the personnel and resources to do the job — Governor Polis continues pushing Congress to act.

The Governor also spoke with President Biden and Vice President Harris at the White House alongside fellow Governors, led a roundtable discussion about housing affordability, discussed the Disagree Better initiative at American University with Governor Cox and Maryland Governor Hogan, spoke with Supreme Court justices on the importance of problem solving over name calling, and more.

Governor Polis also spoke with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, and reiterated Colorado's support of Ukraine. Today marks two years of Putin’s ruthless attack on Ukraine, threatening global security and democracy around the world.
