Governor Polis Celebrates Preschool Enrollment for Year Two & Read Across America Day in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS - Today, Governor Polis visited Colorado Springs to discuss the success of universal preschool and read books to students as part of Read Across America Day.

“Investing in our children and their education is the greatest thing we can do for the future of our state and I’m proud that Colorado is leading the way to help our children and educators get the resources they need to thrive. In Colorado Springs, there are many great examples of how our investments in education are helping the next generation. I was thrilled to tour and read to students at the Early Learning Connections Center and Soaring Eagles Community School. It’s a great reminder that preschool enrollment is open for the 2024-25 school year and families should sign up to help save money and ensure their children are receiving the education they deserve,” said Governor Jared Polis.

The Governor started the day with a tour of the Early Learning Connections Center at the Colorado Springs Day Nursery, one of Colorado’s many universal preschool providers, where he read “Me and My Dragon” by David Biedrzycki to students. Launched last year, the Colorado Universal Preschool Program is saving Colorado families an average of $6,000 each year. Yesterday, the Department of Early Childhood opened enrollment for the second year of universal preschool, which is serving nearly 40,000 four-year-olds in its first year. More than 8,000 applications have been submitted in the first 24 hours. Families can visit UPK.Colorado.gov to submit an application and learn more. 

Governor Polis also visited Soaring Eagles Community School to read to students for Read Across America Day. The Governor read “I Promise” by Lebron James to the first grade class.
