Gov. Polis appoints new district court judges in the 17th Judicial District

DENVER — Gov. Jared Polis today announced three new appointments to the 17th Judicial District Court. The Governor appointed Rayna Gokli McIntyre to fill a vacancy occasioned by the appointment of the Honorable Jaclyn Brown to the Colorado Court of Appeals; he appointed  Patrick H. Pugh to fill a vacancy occasioned by the retirement of the Honorable F. Michael Goodbee; and he appointed Jeffrey Allen Smith to fill a vacancy occasioned by the retirement of the Honorable Patrick T. Murphy.

McIntyre is a Senior Deputy District Attorney in the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, a position she has held since 2016. Her practice consists of felony criminal cases. Previously, McIntyre was a Deputy District Attorney in the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (2011-2016); Deputy District Attorney in the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (2010-2011); and admissions officer for the University of Illinois College of Law (2009-2010). McIntyre earned her B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006 and her J.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2009.

McIntyre’s appointment is effective June 2, 2019.

Pugh is Of Counsel at Ballard Spahr LLP, a position he has held since 2007. His practice consists of litigation and dispute resolution in the areas of commercial, contract, and real estate disputes, commercial and consumer lending, product liability, and employment matters. Previously, Pugh worked as an attorney with Reilly, Pozner & Connelly, LLP (2006-2007) and Kutak Rock, LLP (2005-2006). Pugh earned his B.S. from the University of Kansas in 2001 and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2005.

Pugh’s appointment is effective July 1, 2019.

Smith is a Co-Founder and Partner at Smith Byers LLC, a position he has held since 2011. His practice consists of complex civil litigation and trial work, including complex commercial disputes, securities matters, employment matters, as well as representing companies and individuals in criminal and civil investigations brought by federal and state government entities. Previously, Smith served as an associate and then special counsel at Cooley LLP (2001-2011) and law clerk to the Honorable Edward W. Nottingham, U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado (1999-2001). Smith earned his B.A. from University of California Los Angeles in 1992 and his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1999.

Smith’s appointment is effective July 16, 2019.
