Governor Jared Polis Appoints Monica Gomez to the Fourth Judicial District Court

DENVER — Today, Governor Polis appointed Monica J. Gomez to the Fourth Judicial District Court. The vacancy was created by the retirement of the Honorable Deborah J. Grohs and is effective June 30, 2022.

Ms. Gomez is an El Paso County Court Judge, a position she has held since 2019. Her docket consists of criminal and civil matters. Previously, she was a Douglas County Court Judge (2007-2019); worker’s compensation lawyer for the Law Office of Steven U. Mullens (2006-2007); part-time El Paso County Drug Court Magistrate (2005-2007); Professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law (2004-2006); Assistant Attorney General in the employment division of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office (2003-2004); Deputy State Public Defender in Douglas County (2001-2003); Associate Attorney with Susan Fuller & Associates (2001); Deputy State Public Defender in Arapahoe County (1998-1999); Deputy State Public Defender in El Paso County (1993-1998); and Law Clerk for Judge Gilbert Martinez (1992-1993). Ms. Gomez earned her B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1984, and her J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1992.
