Governor Polis Announces Panel to Review Applications for the District Attorney in the 6th Judicial District

DENVER - Today, Gov. Polis announced a panel to review applications and recommend finalists to him for the appointment of the new District Attorney for the 6th Judicial District. Earlier, District Attorney Christian Champagne announced he will step down as the District Attorney for the 6th Judicial District effective mid-March. 

“I encourage well-qualified attorneys who want to serve the public and help make Colorado one of the safest states in the nation to apply to be the chief prosecutor in the 6th Judicial District,” said Governor Jared Polis. 

Panel members include:

  • Governor Bill Ritter, former DA for the 2nd Judicial District (Denver)

  • Alexis King, DA for the 1st Judicial District (Jefferson and Gilpin Counties)

  • Dan Rubenstein, District Attorney for the 21st Judicial District (Mesa County)

  • Anne Kelly, District Attorney for the 12th Judicial District (Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande and Saguache Counties)

  • Kara Veitch, Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Polis

The application process will remain open until qualified candidates are found. Interviews will begin the week of March 4, 2024. Those interested should submit resumes and cover letters to: gov_officeoflegalcounsel@state.co.us. The salary for the District Attorney position is $130,000/year.
