Governor Polis Appoints Elizabeth J. McCarthy to the Denver Juvenile Court and Christina M. Apostoli to the Arapahoe County Court

DENVER- Today, Governor Polis made two judicial appointments to the 2nd and 18th Judicial Districts. 

Governor Polis appointed Elizabeth J. McCarthy to the Denver Juvenile Court in the Second Judicial District. The vacancy was created by the appointment of the Honorable Pax Moultrie to the Colorado Court of Appeals and is effective immediately. 

Ms. McCarthy is a Magistrate in Denver Juvenile Court, a position she has held since 2019. Her docket consists of juvenile law matters. Previously, she was a Senior Assistant Attorney General (2016-2019) and Assistant Attorney General (2011-2016) at the Colorado Department of Law; Municipal Prosecutor at the Lakewood City Attorney’s Office (2007-2008, 2010); and Deputy District Attorney at the Denver District Attorney’s Office (2008-2009). Ms. McCarthy earned her B.S. from Indiana University in 2000 and her J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School in 2006. 

Governor Polis appointed Christina M. Apostoli to the Arapahoe County Court in the 18th Judicial District. The vacancy was created by the appointment of the Honorable Chantel E. Contiguglia to the 1st Judicial District Court and is effective immediately. 

Ms. Apostoli is a District Court Magistrate in the 18th Judicial District, a position she has held since 2011. Her docket consists of protective proceedings, including mental health, probate and paternity cases. Previously, she was a District Court Magistrate in the 17th Judicial District (2010-2011); Associate at The Harris Law Firm (2009-2010); Deputy District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District (2002-2009); and Staff Attorney at El Paso Legal Assistance Society (2000-2002). Ms. Apostoli earned her B.A. from Colorado State University in 1991 and her J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 2000.
