Governor Polis Announces Final Revitalizing Main Streets Grants of 2023
STATEWIDE - Today, Governor Polis and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) awarded eight final Revitalizing Main Streets grants totaling $1.7 million dollars to strengthen Colorado’s downtowns and ensure that cities, downtowns, and communities across the state are safe, accessible, and welcoming to all.
“These investments will make our unique downtown areas more fun, improve safety, and create public spaces that drive economic growth while making the Colorado we love more accessible to pedestrians, bikers, buses, and drivers alike,” said Governor Polis.
Final 2023 Revitalizing Main Street Grant Recipients:
- Town of De Beque - $250,000
- County of Las Animas - $56,780
- Town of Mead - $250,000
- Town of Minturn - $226,800
- Town of Olathe - $223,512
- Town of Pagosa Springs - $250,000
- Town of San Luis - $181,592
- Town of Westcliff - $250,000
“Not only does this encourage physical activity, it also enhances local economic vitality in towns and cities across Colorado,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “Through this approach, we are grateful to be able to set an example of how statewide transportation agencies can work cohesively with local municipalities to build stronger, healthier, and thriving communities.”
Earlier this year, Governor Polis and CDOT awarded 22 Revitalizing Main Streets grants totaling $4.4 million.

Funding for projects from Poncha Springs to Littleton invests in each local community’s unique needs. From improving the multimodal connection from regional routes to downtown, to building safe pedestrian crossings to connect communities, these investments will enhance Colorado’s downtowns for future generations.
This fall, Governor Polis released the Roadmap to a Future Colorado 2026, outlining his vision to create a more livable, affordable, and sustainable Colorado with housing for all Colorado budgets. Revitalizing main streets plays an important role in creating well-connected and active communities that encourage housing near job centers and cultural and economic hubs.
These opportunities spark community engagement and make it easier for people to explore and experience their local economic and central hubs.
“The grant the City of Georgetown received helped fund the needed improvements to Strousse Park in Georgetown,” said Cynthia Neely, Georgetown’s project manager. “This main street is a central key place in the historic district of Georgetown, and Strousse Park is home to the Christmas market that was established 53 years ago. This program allowed the city to reconstruct the surface, lighting, and drainage.
About Revitalizing Main Streets Grant Program
This grant program supports downtown vitality and the built environment by encouraging economic development, supporting community access to public streets and multimodal transportation, and bringing innovative uses of public spaces for people to life. The funds are used for infrastructure improvement projects that meet the aim of the program and are “shovel ready” and, therefore, can be completed within one year from grant contract execution, if approved.
