The Next Step is demolition of a condemned eyesore!
The building is being prepared for the asbestos removal operations.
The south facade has been boarded up as part of the work enclosure. At the east end a staging area has been set up where the workers will change into their protective suits and put on their respirators. Then they will go inside and remove the asbestos material.
Asbetos Removal Stage
On December 6th Asbestos Inspector Jay Davis checked in at the job site, reporting that abatement is nearly complete. At that time they were waiting for the air clearance test. The superintendent was just leaving, but he offered to "Bunny Up" and go back in to take a few progress photos for us. You can see how clean the interior is. Three dumpsters of ACM plaster have been removed from the walls and ceilings. They scrape and scrub as much as they can and what can't be removed from porous materials like rough lumber and bricks is encapsulated in a varnish. Air test results are expected this week and then demolition can start.
