City of Walsenburg COVID-19 Announcement
To the residents and visitors in Walsenburg,
In our continued effort to protect the health and wellbeing of our customers, team members and communities we serve, we wanted to reach out to you directly about the steps we are taking to address the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). As of March 16, 2020, there were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Huerfano County.
The City of Walsenburg has been monitoring the situation closely and are considering recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization, the State of Colorado, and the Huerfano Las Animas Counties Health Department. In addition, we are prepared to respond to situations to ensure that our services remain uninterrupted. We have advised all team members that if they feel sick and are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms to remain home as a precaution so as not to infect co-workers or customers they may come in contact with. We have curtailed all non-essential work travel.
Because more and more information is becoming available regarding COVID-19, we recognize we are in a rapidly changing situation that requires close monitoring and a need to adapt quickly. As part of our plan to continue providing safe and reliable service:
- Customer Service and Emergency Dispatch personnel will continue to be there to address your energy needs.
- When called to an address, wherein the call necessitates entering the building, our employees may ask if anyone in your household have recently been diagnosed with COVID-19 or been in contact with someone who was recently diagnosed. This will allow our team members to take necessary precautions when we arrive at your home or place of business.
- We will continue to monitor and prepare, and we will provide additional information should conditions change.
- If you ever smell gas, experience a sewer backup, or problems with water supply, call us at 719-738-1044 or call 9-1-1 from a safe location.
We are committed to protecting our workforce and the community. Thank you for being our partner as we work in an environment in which we are being challenged to provide services with the potential of COVID-19 getting ahead of us.
