The Town of Westcliffe Regular Election will be held on Tuesday April 7, 2020.  During this election, registered voters in Westcliffe will be electing four (4) Trustees and
 


TO HELP STOP THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS, WESTCLIFFE TOWN HALL WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC EFFECTIVE MARCH 18, 2020 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

MAIL BALLOTS CAN CONTINUE TO BE DROPPED OFF IN THE DROP OFF BOX ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE BUILDING.  

THERE WILL BE ACCESS TO STAFF THROUGH THE DRIVE-UP WINDOW.

BALLOT QUESTION ISSUE A - SHALL SALES TAX BE INCREASED

The following Sales Tax TABOR language was adopted by the Board of Trustees on Thursday, December 5, 2019.

SHALL TOWN OF WESTCLIFFE'S TAXES BE INCREASED BY $204,000 ANNUALLY, COMMENCING IN JULY 1, 2020 AND PROVIDED THESE INCREASED TAXES SHALL NOT BE COLLECTED AFTER DECEMBER 31, 2024 FOR THE TOWN OF WESTCLIFFE'S CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECTS AND TO BE USED SOLELY FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECTS APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, INCLUDING NEW CONSTRUCTION AND REPAIRS TO STREETS, SIDEWALKS, CURBS AND GUTTERS, ALLEYWAYS, PARKS, TOWN OWNED EQUIPMENT AND OTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN THE TOWN AND BY WHATEVER AMOUNTS ARE RAISED ANNUALLY THEREAFTER UNTIL ITS TERMINATION DATE, FROM A 1% SALES TAX TO BE SPENT AS A VOTER APPROVED REVENUE CHANGE AND, WITHOUT REGARD TO ANY SPENDING, REVENUE RAISING OR OTHER LIMITATION CONTAINED IN ARTICLE X, SECTION 20 OF THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION AND ANY OTHER LAW, AND WITHOUT LIMITING IN ANY YEAR THE AMOUNT OF OTHER REVENUES THAT MAY BE COLLECTED AND SPENT BY THE TOWN?

TABOR ballot notices, will be mailed out to each household having at least one registered voter by Monday, March 9, 2020.  There were no pros or cons received.

All elections are mail ballot elections.  This means everyone who is an active voter will automatically receive their ballot in the mail.  Ballots cannot be forwarded, if you plan on being out of town during the election, make sure that we have your mailing address so that we can mail your ballot to you.

Voter Registration

  • Must be United States Citizen.
  • Be 18 years of age.
  • Be a resident of the Town of Westcliffe and has resided in the State of Colorado for 22 days immediately preceding the election.

You may register to vote several ways.  You can go online to www.govotecolorado.com and register to vote or update your voter information.  Or you can download a voter registration form, fill it out and take it to the Custer County Clerk and Recorders office at 205 South 6th Street; mail it to Custer County Clerk, PO Box 150, Westcliffe, CO. 81252; or email it to peggy@custercountygov.com.

Deadlines for voter registration

Eligible voters may register to vote up to and on Election Day as long as they have resided in the State of Colorado for at lease 22 days immediately preceding election day.

Date ballots will be mailed - 

  • To military and overseas voters (UOCAVA) - February 24, 2020
  • To all other voters March 16, 2020

Last day ballots can be mailed - March 23, 2020

Lost or damaged ballots

If your ballot gets lost or damaged you may get a replacement ballot at the Town of Westcliffe's Town Clerk's office.  For information, call 719-783-2282 ext. 10.


Return your ballot to:

Ballots can be mailed or brought to the Town Clerk's office at the Town of Westcliffe and deposited in the ballot box.  You can deposit your ballot in the ballot in the ballot box during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..  Additionally, there is a secure ballot drop off box, located on the east side of the Town Hall on the building, for the ease of after-hours drop-off.  

The Westcliffe Town Hall will be open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm. from March 23, 2020 to April 7 2020.  The drop off box will close at 6:00 p.m. on Election Day, April 7 2020.
