The Department Motto:

Liberty and Justice, comes from the Pledge of Allegiance and sets the foundation of the department on the original principles of policing.

Our service goal is best described by four words: Protect, Detect, Deter, and Detain.

  • Protect the innocent and victims above all others, including self.
  • Detect criminal activity.
  • Deter the criminal from committing crime.
  • Detain for prosecution those who violate our laws.

The Town of Rangely Police Department currently staffs both sworn officers and civilian employees as dispatchers. Rangely is considered a “frontier” community by modern standards. Our service area maintains an average population of approximately 2,500 citizens.

The community often swells with a transient work force, which services the oil, gas, and coal rich resources of Rio Blanco County. Due to these unique conditions, each officer must be trained and proficient in skills larger police agencies consider “specialized."
