A Message from Mayor Shaffer

Way Outside of Ordinary

March 26, 2020

To the Residents of Rangely:

RE:  Governor Polis Stay at Home Order

Dear Residents:

I am sure most of you, if not all, have heard that Governor Polis issued a Stay at Home Order for our state.  We may not like the order but nonetheless it is in effect.

As a community we have to try to abide by this order.  Quite honestly, the order is not a lot different than what we have already been doing.  I have great respect for our residents as I have watched you social distance, use hand sanitizer, maintain groups under ten (10) and do your part to help control the spread of COVID-19.  I would ask that you stay at home as much as possible and take the time to exercise in our wide-open lands.

With that being said, we must go on with our daily essential business.  What is important and essential to one person or family may not be as essential to another.   Please continue to be smart and cautious.  We currently have no cases of COVID-19 and as a community let’s try to keep it that way.

With regard to our local businesses, all of our businesses in our very small town are essential.  The Town of Rangely is not going to tell private business what they can or cannot do.  The Town of Rangely Police Department does not have the manpower to police a stay at home order.  So we would call on local businesses to be smart and assist with controlling the spread of COVID-19.

The Town of Rangely and Rangely Police Department will continue to control and enforce laws to keep our community safe and a great place to live.

As a community leader I would ask that you remain calm and make decisions that would assist in controlling the spread of COVID-19.  Please help keep our community calm and remember it all starts with us!

With best regards,

Andy Shaffer, Mayor
