Parking & Transit

After completing an extensive community outreach effort in the summer and fall of 2017, the Town Board of Trustees approved the Downtown Parking Management Plan (DPMP) in January of 2018. The DPMP recommended a phased approach to parking management strategies aimed at:

  • Enhancing the experience of accessing downtown for both locals and visitors;
  • Improving the multimodal transportation options to provide convenient alternatives for those who choose not to drive and park; and
  • Identifying cost-effective options to meet future parking and access needs in a way that promotes continued economic vitality for the Town.

In May, the Town Board amended the 2018 budget to include funds to implement Phase I of the DPMP. One of the main recommendations of Phase I was the creation of a new Parking & Transit Division within the Public Works Department. Vanessa Solesbee, CAPP, is the new manager for this division. Vanessa will plan and coordinate all parking and transit services as well as perform short and long-range planning, program development, promotion, grant writing, selection and implementation of new technology, software and hardware to communicate parking and shuttle availability to the visiting public. Moving forward the Town's free shuttle system, Estes Transit will be managed through this division as well.
