MacGregor Avenue Improvements
The Town of Estes Park recently completed the MacGregor Avenue utility improvement project, reopening the road to through traffic. Since then, natural spring runoff is causing settlement issues that require mitigation, both for the near-term benefit to the public and to prepare for the permanent road reconstruction project this summer. To complete the mitigation work, the Utilities Department will close MacGregor Avenue again, tentatively April 24-27 weather permitting.
MacGregor Avenue will be closed to northbound through traffic from Wonderview Avenue to Big Horn Drive. (Local northbound traffic will be maintained.) Southbound traffic (local and through traffic) will be detoured onto Big Horn Drive. Watch for traffic control signage around the work zone. For safety, all pedestrians and cyclists must avoid the construction zone for the duration of this project.
Separate from the Town's project, TDS is expected to work on its utilities in the same area for approximately 2 to 3 weeks. The company will direct traffic from one lane to the other as required. For more information, please contact TDS directly.
Next for this area of MacGregor Avenue will be the permanent road reconstruction project, tentatively planned for early this summer. For project updates, please visit www.estes.org/macgregoravenue.
This project is currently out for bid with a deadline of April 13, 2017. The Town is anticipating construction to begin at the beginning of May. MacGregor Avenue Improvements Open House
The Town of Estes Park invites the public to a meeting to hear information on the proposed design for MacGregor Avenue improvements at an open house Feb. 3. The project will consist of drainage improvements, road repaving, and a new concrete trail from Wonderview Avenue north to the town limits near Saint Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. The design drawings will be available for review and comment Feb. 3 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Estes Park Town Hall, Rooms 202/203. A project overview presentation will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the open house.
Public Works Pavement Manager Kelly Stallworth commented, "We are excited that this project has been selected to be constructed in 2017 and we look forward to the expanded recreational and connection opportunities it will offer." The Town of Estes Park encourages everyone to provide input on the preliminary plan and design.
For individuals who cannot attend the Feb. 3 meeting, these materials will be available online by Feb. 10 on this webpage. Written comments may be mailed to Town of Estes Park Public Works, RE: MacGregor Avenue Improvements, P.O. Box 1200, Estes Park, CO 80517 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Town of Estes Park Public Works Department, in cooperation with the citizen Transportation Advisory Board and Estes Valley Recreation & Parks District Trails Committee, has determined this is a highly needed trail as identified in the recently adopted Estes Valley Master Trails Plan. This project will be built with funds from the Town's Ballot Issue 1A Street Maintenance Fund as well as the Ballot Issue 1A Trail Expansion Fund.
