Collbran Downtown Master Plan 2015

Grants Help Collbran Implement Downtown Improvements

$150,000 from the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) Mineral Impact Fund and $50,000 from the Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District (MCFMLD) will allow the Town of Collbran to move forward on downtown improvements.  In 2014, Collbran completed a Downtown Master Plan that was crafted over 10 months and incorporated broad-based input from community members.

The project will include installation of pedestrian scale dark sky LED solar streetlights on High Street and Main Street.  Colored and textured concrete crosswalks will be installed for pedestrian safety.  A concrete esplanade will be constructed in the street on the north side of Lilac Park.  This area is designed so it can be blocked off during events to expand usability and or public safety.  In the future, the esplanade will have a connection to a trail across Plateau Creek and will eventually connect to the Collbran Arena.

Decorative planters, benches and waste containers will be strategically located along Main Street to improve the pedestrian friendly character of downtown.  A small pocket park will be constructed in front of the bank that will add to downtown ambience.  Community Gateway features will be constructed on High St. near Grove Creek and Main St. near Plateau Creek.  These Gateway features will help define the edges of the downtown core and welcome people to town.

All of these improvements are identified in the Collbran Downtown Master Plan which is available on the link below.  The Collbran Board of Trustees and many community members have been anxiously waiting for these grants as the final component of an approximately $500,000 project.  This undertaking is the culmination of a partnership with DOLA, MCFMLD, Laramie-Energy, local citizens, Grand Valley Bank, Center for Community Development and others.  Work is expected to begin in early summer.  For more information contact Collbran Town Hall 970-487-3751.
