Manufacturing Month Highlight: Wayne Clark
Governor Hickenlooper proclaims October as Manufacturing Month. This is an opportunity to recognize the important role manufacturers make for a local economy. In honor of this proclamation, we would like to showcase one of our local manufacturing heroes here in Bennett.
Wayne Clark has two manufacturing businesses here in Bennett as well as a party and catering supply company. The first manufacturing arm is Sports Fence International. Through this business, he manufactures the plastic fencing seen at Bennett Days and at the ballparks. This business manufactures fencing panels that are sold across the nation.
On average Clark produces 1000 panels a year and distributes them as close as Bennett, and as far as California. The sports fence arm of Clark's business has been in operation since 2006.
Also manufactured by Clark are Shooting Bench USA benches. This manufacturing arm of his ventures started in the late 1990's. Approximately 125 benches are manufactured per year. These benches are used by numerous 4H, Skeet, and Trap shooting outfits across the nation.
Clark also runs Blue Sky Party Rentals, which has been in operation since the 1980's. Blue Sky provides party and catering supplies for large and small-scale events.

Morgan Community College to Expand Offerings in Bennett Many residents have noticed the new Morgan Community College sign just off I-70. MCC has recently leased over 5,800 square feet in what formerly housed Clarks Equipment Sales & Rentals.
The new additional location in Bennett, at 100 I-70 Frontage Road, will offer increased space for the college's support staff, instructional programs, plentiful parking, and convenient access for surrounding communities utilizing I-70. Staff will begin transitioning to the new space in mid-May.
MCC administration anticipates the facility will accommodate office and support space for three full-time employees, two general-purpose classrooms, and one computer lab. The use of the additional shop space has not been established at this time.
Morgan Community College will continue to offer a wide range of general education courses, including guaranteed transfer courses and pre-requisites to some health programs. According to Kathleen Frisbie, MCC Vice President of Instruction, the MCC Bennett Center will be adding phlebotomy courses and a few medical assisting courses to its repertoire of quality programs and highly qualified instructors. Our goal is to continue expanding the offerings in the Bennett area to meet student needs.
MCC will maintain its current leased office space at 280 Colfax, with future use still to be determined.
For more information about MCC, contact Regional Director Faith Koetter at (303) 644-4034.

We offer basic veterinary care, surgical needs, triage care, radiology, chiropractic therapy, acupuncture and massage as well.

The Town of Bennett also celebrated the opening of Simon Contractors on Wednesday, December 6. Simon Contractors is one of only two Primary Employers in the Town of Bennett, and we look forward to the new jobs they will bring to the local region.
More information about Simon Contractors can be found online at http://www.simoncontractors.com/.
Primary employers are businesses that produce more goods or services than the local economy can use or consume. (For example, a manufacturing company is a primary employer.) Therefore, these businesses export the surplus of goods and services. This means the money received for the goods and services comes back to the local economy, which in turn helps create new jobs and improves the economic base for the community.Carniceria La Mexicanita
Carniceria La Mexicanita celebrated their opening on Thursday, October 12. Congratulations and welcome to the Bennett Business Community.

All About You Massage Therapy
Laura Behrens's professional career in massage therapy began upon graduating from the Denver School of Massage Therapy in January 2014. However, it was several years prior to making the decision to become a massage therapist that her life experiences opened her foresight for this opportunity to serve her community.
Six years ago, her mother was in the end stages of battling cancer and was so uncomfortable in bed that all she wanted was a massage for pain relief. It was then Laura reflected on her own life and remembered many times her mother would massage her as a child to aid with aches and pains, or restlessness at bedtime. Massage has helped her father with a leg injury and breaking up uncomfortable scar tissue. Receiving massage during her first pregnancy gave Laura relief from low back pain and swelling edema in her legs. And now, her 14 year old son is active in sports, he too receives massage to improve athletic performance and aid in muscle recovery.

We constantly refer to our companies as family run with family values. We recently brought on my brother in Law, Daniel, who played a key role in the opening of this store. We are local to Denver and spend most of our time in our restaurants. We chose to build our Bennett store, as our first new store in seven years. We really appreciate the small town environment and world class people we've met in Bennett. We were able to hire roughly 43 employees with 95% of them from Bennett and the surrounding towns. Our goal is to maintain excellent guest service with a quality product. We plan to play a big role in the community starting with supporting Bennett days on the 10th. Please stop by our booth to grab a coupon and some goodies!
On a personal note Alicia and I have been married for 5 years. I have 4 kids Zackary (21), Kyle (18) and my baby twins Adeline & Olivia (1.5). Roggen Farmer's Elevator Association - Expansion555 E. Colfax Ave
Roggen Farmers’ Elevator Association has expanded their operations through a partnership with the Town of Bennett. The goal was to have two additional grain silos available for storage of wheat and corn during the harvest season of 2013. As you may have noticed, that goal was achieved. The improvements were challenging because of the extensive industrial operations that were necessary for the upgrades that had to be completed in the core of downtown Bennett. However, despite the challenges, the Town recognized the vital role of Roggen Farmers’ Elevator Association and the contribution its agricultural operation has made towards the history and current commercial base of Bennett. Therefore, the Town also recognized the need for Roggen Elevator to improve their facilities by adding the new grain bins for a higher storage capacity. This improvement, along with the installation of a faster grain leg translated into higher productivity and less truck traffic and congestion on Colfax Avenue / HWY 79 and in the yard area of Roggen Elevator. The added storage meant that trucks no longer needed to haul wheat out as it was being brought in and the upgraded leg allowed for semis to be dumped in five minutes as opposed to fifteen.
The property is located strategically in the center of the historic commercial area of Bennett on Union Pacific property where train service has been vital since the Town incorporated. Since being built in 1954, Roggen Farmers’ Elevator-Bennett Branch has been driven with the purpose of strengthening the economic well being of its members and the community in which it stands.
With the construction of the grain silos, the company worked with the Town of Bennett to make site improvements in order to positively affect the overall operations of the property. These improvements included designing and installing an engineered drainage system, incorporating large cement drainage pans to eliminate the ponding of water that had continuously mired the yard area in years past. With the new drainage system, a large portion of the site was surfaced with asphalt millings that were recycled from roadwork being done in the area. The millings were then covered in rock to help the yard, and center of Bennett, look more appealing. Additionally, the jersey barriers were removed and new landscaping and fencing took their place. The Town and Roggen Farmers’ Elevator Association are both pleased with the outcome. The Roggen Elevator site is a great example of how the members of Roggen Farmers’ Elevator Association and the Town of Bennett are working to improve the quality of life for its residents.
