Colorado Youth for a Change

Areas Served: Denver, Aurora, Mapleton, Brighton, Poudre, Englewood and Jefferson County

Program Description:

Colorado Youth for a Change’s Corps for a Change program serves young people in Colorado who have dropped out of school or who are at risk of dropping out of school. AmeriCorps members do this in two ways; reaching out to students who have already dropped out of school to reengage them in educational opportunities, and working with in-school youth with low attendance to provide support and resources in order to improve attendance and school engagement

They have a total of 28 members serving in seven school districts: Denver, Aurora, Mapleton, Brighton 27J, Poudre, Englewood and Jefferson County. While serving with CYC, AmeriCorps members:

  • Support a caseload of 20-40 students
  • Earn a living stipend each month
  • Complete a minimum of 1700 hour of service within a ten and a half month term
  • Earn an education award upon successful completion of 1700 hours of service
  • Participate in professional development and training

During the 2015-2016 program year members:

  • Supported 109 youth through dropout recovery
  • Supported 329 youth through in-school support
