Colorado Reading Corps - Metro Denver
Agency: Mile High United Way
Areas Served: Metro Denver
Program Description: To include the kind of service, number of members, age range of members, service locations (by county is fine), and three impact stats (example below)
Colorado Reading Corps’ mission is to help all students read proficiently by the end of third grade. To do so, we place talented, passionate, and dedicated adults of all ages into elementary schools throughout the Metro Denver Area to serve full time as literacy tutors. Colorado Reading Corps tutors help students build literacy skills to increase students’ reading proficiency. Tutors support each student’s classroom instruction by using evidence-based reading interventions in one-on-one sessions with students who are reading below grade level during the school day, and provide additional support to enrichment programs before and after school to further support their students, school, and community. Colorado Reading Corps tutors serve full-time in their schools, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend group service opportunities.
- On average, 82% of students in the program are exceeding target growth rates
- Over 6000 students have been served through the Reading Corps program in Colorado since it began here in 2012
- 93% of tutors, teachers, supervisors and admin surveyed in 2015-16 agree or strongly agree that Colorado Reading Corps has a positive impact on the students in the program.
