Colorado Highway 144: Realignment/Permanent Flood Repairs
Colorado Highway 144 between mile points 5.1 – 6.7, which is approximately two miles north of US Highway 34, will be under construction through November in order to complete permanent flood repairs. CDOT and contractor partner, Castle Rock Construction Company, will reconstruct 1.6 miles of two-lane highway near the community of Orchard in Morgan County with an improved design intended to withstand future flood events.
The contractor will construct the new roadway adjacent to the existing highway for several months. From now until August, traffic impacts will be limited to shoulder closures, lane closures with alternating traffic, and intermittent flagging for construction equipment access to the work site.
In August, a full highway closure for 10 consecutive days is necessary when the new roadway is connected to the existing highway. A signed detour will be provided. Closure dates will be posted at least one week in advance on message boards along the corridor and on the project website. The schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.
