The October stakeholder committee meeting for the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program provided an award of $433,000 in federal funding to purchase a mobile live-fire training unit for the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC). These federal funds will help the state fire training program acquire this new resource to allow firefighters access to a safe, controlled live-fire training environment.
Approximately 100 firefighters give their lives in the line of duty each year in the United States. There is no other single event that is as powerful and significant to an agency. The death of a fellow firefighter presents a difficult time for the entire agency as well as the deceased member’s family. Many details and arrangements need to be addressed in a short period of time.
