CHILD WELFARE CASEWORKER - Logan County Department of Human Services

Full Time position. Performs a variety of full performance advanced level complex technical and professional duties as needed to expedite child investigative services in accordance with agency, state, and federal guidelines and laws.

Services provided include the following child welfare areas: counseling, parent education, case planning and management involving circumstances such as sexual abuse, physical abuse, child neglect, foster care, youth in conflict, and related manners.

Conducts inquires concerning allegations of child abuse, youth in conflict, and/or neglect in home or institutional settings, interviews child(ren)/youth, parents, providers, and collaterals and assesses risk and safety to the child/youth; documents the investigative assessment process as required in the State database.

Minimum education: 4 year college degree from an accredited college or university in social work or one of the human behavioral science fields plus one year required internship/residency.

Starting Salary:  $ 19.5997 per hour with benefits – negotiable dependant on education & experience.

CASE WORKER - FOSTER CARE/RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT - Logan County Department of Human Services

Full Time Position:

Performs a variety of entry level complex technical and professional duties as needed to expedite the certification of foster/adoptive parents per state and federal guidelines and laws.  To support and train foster parents.  

Manages a personal caseload of foster care certified families. (Caseloads vary from 8 to 18 families)

Responds to emergency calls after hours when required to assist foster parents with current placement.

Engages in crisis intervention in order to prevent placement disruptions.

Conducts SAFE home studies for interested parties as part of the certification process.  Interviews and obtains information regarding provider’s history (childhood, adult. Alcohol/drug use, criminal, psychiatric, occupational and marriage/domestic partner relationship history); Personal Characteristics, Current marriage relationship, Children and others residing in the home, extended family relationships, physical/social environment; general parenting; specialized parenting and adoption issues.  Completes evaluation of obtained information and writes detailed report for submission to caseworker and courts. 

Initiates a new resource case for all foster care, adoptive and kinship families while they are working with the Department.  Completes kinship and foster care certification process with interested families. Ensures compliance with state regulations regarding training hours, first aid/cpr, background checks, medical evaluations, home safety elements, policies and procedures and contract management.

Works with caseworker and foster parent to facilitate services to children placed in foster care and to maintain positive relationship between caseworkers and resource families.

Assists caseworkers in locating and arranging out of home placement for children who cannot safely remain in their homes, to ensure a match of child’s needs and foster parent’s skills.  Supervises/ monitors children county foster care and adoptive placements.  Strives to obtain placements that can accommodate sibling groups.

Arranges for and facilitates monthly support group for resource parents. Teaches and arranges for the teaching of basic behavioral skills, parenting skills, child development, appropriate discipline/limit setting for children and effective communication.

Provides safety interventions, maintains contact with resource families on a regular basis (one to four times monthly).

Provides education to community regarding the need for resource families.

Arranges for and facilitates recruitment and retention activities for foster parents.

Maintains resource family case files based on state and federal regulations.  Documents case activity as required in State data base.

Completes mandatory casework training as required by regulations.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Education: Education and Experience:  

A.  Graduation from college with a bachelor’s degree in social work, human services or related field;

AND

B.  Three (3) year of experience performing above or related duties;

OR

C.  Equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
