Recorder's Notes by Pamela Bacon, Logan County Clerk and Recorder
Motor Vehicle Information:
Non-sanctioned online motor vehicle registration sites
Customer complaints regarding what customers view as a scam. Customers who type Colorado DMV or DMV into their search bar are, occasionally, directed to websites such as dmv.org or stateregistration.org. These websites are not sanctioned by the State of Colorado and charge transaction fees to complete a transaction. These sites state they are not affiliated with any government agency and therefore, the State of Colorado does not have the ability to shut these websites down. The Division of Motor Vehicles works with search engine and marketing companies to keep mydmv.colorado.gov or colorado.gov/dmv at the top of all searches.
There is an alert about these types of sites at https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dmv/unofficial-websites and the Division of Motor Vehicles is working with the Attorney General’s office to put out a consumer alert to educate residents. If residents feel they were a victim of fraud due to using one of these sites, they may report the issue to https://www.stopfraudcolorado.gov/.
