Welcome to your Police Department's web page. It is my sincere desire that you will partner with us to make Leadville a safe, enjoyable place to live, work and play. Our mantra is simple; we are here to serve, assist and protect you. Our job is to help facilitate a solution to each and every issue we observe or is brought to our attention, big or small. Whether it is a traditional "police" matter or not.

We live in the best country and system of government in the world, bar none. We, your police department, represent what is right, true and good about our system and society. We will act accordingly. All our members are here because they have a strong desire to help people. I say this is your police department, I mean it; I am just the individual chosen to lead it. To that end, my door will always be open. Stop in or call and let me know how we are doing. I will always attempt to answer your questions and work together with you to find real, lasting solutions to any problems that might arise.

POLICE CHIEF

The City of Leadville is seeking a highly qualified individual with experience in managing the daily patrol operations, investigations, support services, grant writing and operating budget of a 9 fulltime sworn officers, 1 full-time administration position, and 1 part-time code enforcement officer police department, serving a population of 2,630

The Police Chief must possess the knowledge, experience and proven ability to balance the needs of public safety and form a solid working relationship with the City of Leadville Officials. The Chief is required to reside within a reasonable distance from Leadville.

  • Prefer an Associate's Degree in a related field and a minimum of seven years of experience as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity at command level experience in a small to mid-size police agency or years of service equivalency.
  • Must be POST Certified.
  • Possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License. 
  • Have a clean criminal record with no felonies or domestic violence charges.
  • Successfully pass a background investigation, psychological examination, oral interview.

POLICE OFFICER
Leadville, Colorado, sits at 10,152 feet above sea level, the highest incorporated city in the
heart of the Rocky Mountains. Leadville offers small town living with the bonus of having a rich
mining history and a year-round event calendar. Surrounded by national forests, outdoor
enthusiasts enjoy biking, climbing, fishing, running, skiing, hunting, and more. The City of
Leadville has immediate openings in their Police Department. The Department is currently
seeking applications for the position of Police Officer. The ideal candidate will have a degree in
Administration of Justice or a related field (preferred). Must be Colorado Post Certified or
eligible for provisional certification. The successful candidate will be subject to an intense
background investigation as well as psychological and physical examinations. Salary
