Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) Member and Applicant Resources

Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) is low-cost public health insurance for children and pregnant women who qualify. It is for people who earn too much to qualify for Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid Program), but not enough to pay for private health insurance. CHP+ is paid for by a combination of state and federal funding. 
 
On December 21, 2017, the Joint Budget Committee approved Governor John Hickenlooper's request for one-time, short-term funding to extend funding of CHP+ at least until February 28, 2018. An exact end date for CHP+ in Colorado is not known at this time because of changing legislative action. 
 
The Department is currently analyzing how the recent federal Continuing Resolution passed by Congress may impact the CHP+ program in Colorado. Once the Department’s analysis is complete, the resources and information on this page will be updated to reflect the most current information.

If Congress does not act to renew federal funding, what will be the end of CHP+ in Colorado?
As of January 3, 2018, if Congress does not act, the CHP+ program will end no sooner than February 28, 2018. The Department is currently analyzing how the recent federal Continuing Resolution passed by Congress may impact the CHP+ program in Colorado.
 

Can individuals still apply for CHP+?
Yes, new applications for CHP+ will continue to be accepted. 

 
Will there be any changes to CHP+ benefits or eligibility in February?
No, there will be no changes to CHP+ benefits or eligibility in February 2018. CHP+ members should continue going to the doctor, and CHP+ kids should continue going to the dentist.
 

Will CHP+ redetermination packets stop going out?
No, redetermination letters will continue to be mailed and processed.

 
Do CHP+ members still need to pay the enrollment fee?
Yes, CHP+ members who owe an enrollment fee, need to continue to pay the fee by the deadline listed in their letter.
 
 
Important Information
  • As of today, there are no changes to your CHP+ benefits. Please continue to use your benefits.
  • If you or your family receives a letter stating it is time to renew your CHP+ benefits, follow the instructions in the letter and pay your enrollment fee, if you owe one.
  • Legislative action could happen at any time that would either renew long-term funding for CHP+, or provide more short-term funding, but there is no guarantee that this will happen.

What You Can Do Now

  1. If you do not already have a PEAK account, go to CO.gov/PEAK to sign up. If you have technical problems with your account, call the PEAK Technical Support Call Center at 1-800-250-7741
  2. Log in to your PEAK account and then click on Report My Changes to make sure your information is up to date.
  3. With your PEAK account, you can also choose to get an email or text when you have a new letter in the PEAK Mail Center. Some CHP+ updates may come through the PEAK Mail Center if you sign up.
