In May of 2016, there was a building fire at the San Juan Apartments. Officer Poole (FPD) and Deputy Amendola (FCSO) arrived on scene and ran through the smoke and flames to save several lives. Through extreme heat and horrendous conditions, their bravery never faltered. Chief DeLaurentis was honored to present them with the Medal of Valor for their dedication to service and the incredible bravery they showed.
Can you imagine, sitting in your office late at night when someone starts banging on the window begging you to save the life of their friend?
The summer of 2016, that's exactly what happened to Officer Gordon when a 20 year old female nearly overdosed. Fortunately, he had received training with a life-saving drug known as Narcan, and the young lady survived a nearly deadly mistake. Chief DeLaurentis presented him with the Life Saving Award to recognize him for saving her from a fatal event.
In July 2016, Chief DeLaurentis presented Officer Bill Vinelli, Officer Byron Cline, and Lt Shane Prickett with the Life-Saving award for going above and beyond the call of duty to save the lives of several Florence citizens.
