Weekly Lunch Program
EVRPD to End Senior Lunch Program
After extending the three-month senior lunch pilot program for an additional two months, EVRPD and its Senior Advisory Committee (SAC) have decided to put the lunch program on hiatus, effective August 1, 2018. The last lunch of the pilot program will be Wednesday, July 25.
The program saw an overwhelmingly positive response in March, April and May, but there was a substantial drop in attendance beginning in June. Because the lunch is subsidized, EVRPD and SAC will research the need for a weekly lunch program or what a lunch program should look like before moving forward with the program. Other affordable senior lunch opportunities are available in Estes Park, including those provided by the American Legion and Estes Park Senior Citizens Center, Inc.
EVRPD and SAC are conducting a survey to help determine the cause of the decreased attendance and understand seniors’ needs for the subsidized lunches. The deadline for completion is Friday, August 10.
Regardless of the outcome for the weekly lunch program, EVRPD’s senior services is continuing to expand its programming and develop new opportunities for senior social activities.
