Specialty Fitness

Fitness classes fall into two categories: group and water fitness classes (which are included in a community center admission/membership), and specialty fitness classes (which are not included in a community center admission/membership and do require class registration). 

NIA
NIA is a fusion fitness of dance, martial arts, and body/mind practices. It involves 52 moves that focus on longevity without injuries. It includes jazz, modern, and Duncan dance styles. Each routine has martial arts of tai chi, TaeKwonDo and Aikido. Body/mind practices, such as Feldenkrais Method, Alexander Technique, and yoga, make NIA more than just a workout. The music ranges across cultures and styles. There is no right or wrong within the NIA experience. It accommodates all levels of abilities, ages and moods!

Jazzercise©
Jazzercise fuses cardio, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and modern dance. Plus, it offers different formats for the variety you need to stay motivated and break through plateaus. Your instructor totes a passion for fitness and dance to the stage each and every class. She’ll lead you on a journey that challenges your body and frees your mind while the stress of the day melts away.

Location: Tuesdays in Lower Fitness and Fridays in Bighorn/Community Room B
Dates: Tuesdays 3/20 - 5/8 or Fridays 3 /19 - 5/11

TAI CHI FOR ARTHRITIS AND FALLS PREVENTION (LEVEL 1)
This six-week class is easy, enjoyable and ideal for beginners, with or without arthritis. Participants will learn slow, smooth, continuous movements that strengthen internal muscles and loosen joints and ligaments while calming the mind.

Dates: Fridays 3/2 - 4/6 (session 1);  4/13—5/18 (session 2);

ADULT JAZZ DANCE
Dance is a full-body workout that improves memory, coordination, balance, strength, rhythm, self-expression and creativity. Students will learn jazz styles, technique and whole dances in a safe, fun environment.
• Level 1 students will learn the basics of jazz, Broadway and lyrical dances along with accomplishing a choreographed dance number by the end of the session. Designed for adults who want to dance and exercise for joy.
• Level 2 students will learn intermediate levels of jazz, Broadway and lyrical dances to improve dance technique and performance skills. Designed for adults with a dance background and who want to perform for our community events.
