SilverSneakers® Is Coming to Estes Valley Community Center
The Estes Valley Recreation and Park District is proud to announce that the Estes Valley Community Center is now a SilverSneakers® fitness location.
Starting Monday, November 26, those eligible for SilverSneakers through their healthcare provider will be able to join the Estes Valley Community Center at no additional cost for membership.
“SilverSneakers offers an innovative blend of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and socially oriented programming proven to reduce the healthcare costs of participants,” said Teresa Jackson, Manager of Operations for the Estes Valley Community Center. “SilverSneakers members can enjoy all of the benefits of community center general membership with no additional fees.”
SilverSneakers is the nation’s leading, comprehensive exercise program for older adults. Participation in the program, which is designed for all levels and abilities, can help improve overall well-being, strength and social aspects. SilverSneakers is typically available at no cost to individuals who belong to a participating Medicare health plan, Medicare Supplement carrier plan or group retiree plan.
A recent study in the Journal of Applied Gerontology showed that older adults participating in a SilverSneakers program experienced less social isolation than those not participating in the program, leading to reduced loneliness and better overall health.
Another 2018 study, published in Health Behavior and Policy Review, demonstrated that SilverSneakers group exercise classes can help control healthcare costs for older adults.
And a 2013 study in Population Health Management determined that participation in SilverSneakers is associated with better physical and emotional health, higher functioning, and lower disability among seniors.
“SilverSneakers offers a whole new level of access to recreation and wellbeing for our older adult community in Estes Valley,” said Tom Carosello, Executive Director for Estes Valley Recreation and Park District. “Studies have shown its value and we are thrilled that it is now a part of the EVRPD offerings.”
