Public Community Center Update Meeting to Be Held February 23, 2017

Estes Valley Recreation and Park District to Update Community About New Community Center at Public Meeting

Estes Park, Colo.: Estes Valley Recreation and Park District (EVRPD) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 6 p.m. to update the community about the Estes Valley Community Center (EVCC). The meeting will be held in the Town Hall Board Room located at 170 MacGregor Avenue, Estes Park.

All residents of Estes Valley are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting to hear the latest status of the EVCC project, including the design, amenities, project schedule, proposed membership fees, and hours of operation.

In addition to receiving a project update, staff from the District and Estes Park Senior Services will be on hand to gather feedback for programming and operation of the facility.

The 70,000 square-foot community center is envisioned as a comprehensive multi-generational facility that offers something for people of all ages, and reflects the community’s vision as a premier mountain community. The new center will include a senior center area, library resources, multipurpose gymnasium with a walking and jogging track, a lazy river with interactive play features and slide at the refurbished aquatics center, group fitness facilities, large community room with kitchen, flexible classroom space, and drop-in childcare.

The community center will adjoin the existing Aquatics Center, which will be partially renovated in conjunction with the construction of the EVCC.

The Aquatics Center renovation will require the closure of the facility following the conclusion of the Estes Park Bobcats boys swim team season. The facility is slated to close on May 21, 2017. It will reopen in late August.

Construction of the EVCC has recently progressed from earth moving to concrete pouring. The construction company, Adolfson & Peterson Construction, started pouring concrete for the foundation and walls of the community center in mid-January.

As EVRPD continues with the planning process of the long-awaited EVCC, your opinion will continue to be important to determine the best programming and to maximize the space to meet the community’s needs.

EVRPD has created an online survey where Estes Valley residents can provide their ideas and feedback for the community center. The survey is available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/WDLJJXP. The survey will also be available at the community center public meeting on February 23.

For more information about the community center or questions about the public meeting, contact Teresa Jackson, EVRPD Manager of Community Center Operations at (970) 586-7556 or visit www.evrpd.com.
