Final Construction Update for the Estes Valley Community Center Prior to the Grand Opening

Estes Valley Recreation and Park District (EVRPD), provider of numerous recreational and community activities in Estes Valley, is excited to share the final update about the construction progress for the Estes Valley Community Center (EVCC) prior to the grand opening on March 3, 2018.

The facility has now exceeded 96 percent completion and continues to stay on track for a late February opening. Adolfson and Peterson Construction, the company guiding the project from start to finish, made the announcement at the project status meeting on Tuesday, January 23.

“We have been thrilled with the progress made by Adolfson and Peterson Construction throughout the entire process, but especially now as we come down the homestretch of the project,” said Tom Carosello, Executive Director for EVRPD. “Final details are coming together and we are moving into the process of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.”

The last big portion of the project to be completed is the construction of the leisure pool area. This 6,208-square-foot natatorium will include the lazy river, water play features, a waterfall, a zero-depth pool and slide. A party room for holding pool parties is adjacent to the natatorium and is also moving into the final steps of development.

Final touches also need to be completed on the golf simulator room, the kids watch area, main level lobby and the group fitness rooms.
Artwork is being selected for the walls and plans are in process for the public rotating gallery in the lower level lobby.

The administrative wing of the facility, which will combine the offices of the community center, recreation and administrative staff into one facility for the first time in the district’s 63-year history, are complete with modern, ergonomic furniture and bright lighting. The IT team has also been hired to connect not only the community center but the rest of the EVRPD locations into one cohesive system, another first for the district that will simplify communication for our customers.

Wayfinding signs have been installed throughout the facility. The indoor running/walking track has been installed and tested out by a few staff members. All of the strength-training, cardio and fitness equipment has been delivered. The commercial kitchen, community rooms, classroom, game room and lower lobby are complete minus the installation of the ATM machine, library kiosk and vending machines.

The wood floor in the gym has been installed and sanded. The floor is scheduled to be painted and varnished within the week.

Beyond the construction progress, the EVRPD staff has been busy training new hires, hiring the final employees, and finalizing programming for the building, including a wide variety of fitness classes and a full schedule of gym activities. And the staff has also been busy planning a fun and memorable grand opening celebration.

“The process of providing a community/recreation center in Estes Park started in 1957,” said Carosello. “It may have taken 61 years but we are just weeks away from making this dream a reality.”

The grand opening will be held on Saturday, March 3 at the community center. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. with an open house to follow.
