EVRPD to Update Public About Community Center at Public Meeting April 12

Estes Valley Recreation and Park District to Hold Public Meeting to Update Community About the Progress of the Estes Valley Community Center

Estes Park, Colo.: Estes Valley Recreation and Park District (EVRPD) will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10 a.m. to update the community about the Estes Valley Community Center (EVCC). The meeting will be held in the Town Senior Center located at 220 4th Street, Estes Park.

All residents of Estes Valley are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting to hear the latest status of the EVCC project, including the design, amenities, project schedule, proposed membership fees, and hours of operation.

In addition to receiving a project update, staff from the District and Estes Park Senior Services will be on hand to gather feedback for programming and operation of the facility.

The 70,000 square-foot community center is envisioned as a comprehensive, multi-generational facility that offers something for people of all ages, and reflects the community’s vision as a premier mountain community.

The new center will include a senior center area, library resources, multipurpose gymnasium with a walking and jogging track, a lazy river with interactive play features and slide at the refurbished aquatics center, group fitness facilities, large community room with kitchen, flexible classroom space, golf simulator, and drop-in childcare.

The community center will adjoin the existing Estes Park Aquatics Center, which will be partially renovated in conjunction with the construction of the EVCC.

The Aquatics Center renovation will require the closure of the facility following the conclusion of the Estes Park Bobcats boys swim team season. The facility is slated to close on May 19, 2017. It will reopen in the fall.

The District also continues to accept applications for the Senior Advisory Committee (SAC) to counsel and assist the District with the planning and communication of senior services at the EVCC.

The committee will include five members appointed by the EVRPD Board of the Directors, with at least two members appointed from the membership of Estes Park Senior Citizens Center, Inc.

To be considered for the committee, applicants must be full-time residents of the District, a 320-square mile region including Estes Park and the surrounding area. Applicants must also be at least 55 years of age at the time of applying.

In August 2016, the Town of Estes Park and EVRPD entered an intergovernmental agreement to transfer senior services from the Town to the District upon the opening of the Estes Valley Community Center, which is anticipated to be January 2018. The agreement includes the establishment of a Senior Advisory Committee.

To apply for the committee, please submit a completed EVRPD Committee Application by April 14, 2017 to the EVRPD Administration Office located at 690 Big Thompson Avenue, Estes Park, CO 80517. Applications are available online at evrpd.com or can be picked up at the EVRPD Administration Office.
