December Active Adult Programs

Estes Valley Recreation and Park District (EVRPD), provider of numerous recreational and community activities in the Estes Valley, is pleased to provide a robust program of senior services for the Estes Valley community. Here are a few of the featured programs for the coming weeks. For a complete listing of activities, including registration information, visit evrpd.com/seniorservices.

HOLIDAY EVENTS
Jingle and Mingle Holiday Party
Join EVRPD Senior Services for a free, drop-in holiday event on Friday, December 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities include ornament decorating, a hot chocolate bar, cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus, photos with Santa (for the young and young at heart!), live holiday music, and an ugly sweater contest. The event will also feature holiday caroling performed by Estes Valley Lifelong Learners and a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Check your attic, basement, or closet to find your silliest gently used item; wrap it up and bring it to the party!
The event is hosted by EVRPD Senior Services in collaboration with the EVRPD Senior Advisory Committee and the Estes Park Newcomers Club. For more information, contact Kelly Claypool at 970-480-1331.

Wreath Decorating Workshop
Show off your festive spirit and make your own 20-inch mesh wreath. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, December 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. and advanced registration is required. The $20 fee covers the cost of all materials.
To register, visit evrpd.com, call 970-586-8191, or stop by the community center.

LIFELONG LEARNING
Photo Memoir Writing
Most of our memories come to us with mental images. This six-week photo (literal or remembered) memoir writing class is designed to help writers create and develop significant events from their past using visuals – images rooted in memory. Writers will workshop drafts and receive feedback for enriching their work and creating “finished” pieces. The class series will be taught by Pat Nelson, M.A.

Classes will take place on Wednesday evenings, January 9 through February 13, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Estes Valley Community Center. The cost for the six-week series is $60 and advanced registration is required.

To register, visit evrpd.com, call 970-586-8191, or stop by the community center.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Low Vision Support Group
If you are experiencing low vision and need a little extra support or guidance, this group is for you. Disabled Resource Services will host a quarterly meeting to discuss low vision related topics and help you stay up to date on blindness-related news and research. They can also help you access assistive devices like magnifiers, closed circuit televisions, task lights, talking watches, and more.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 11 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the community center. No registration is necessary; just drop in.

SOCIAL
Backgammon Games and Lessons
Drop in the second Wednesday of each month to play this classic game of skill, strategy, and luck. Games will be played from 1 to 2:30 in the lower level of the Estes Valley Community Center. The next date is Wednesday, December 12.
