Construction of the EVCC Surpasses 75 Percent Completion

The Estes Valley Community Center (EVCC), being built by Estes Valley Recreation and Park District (EVRPD), continues to stay on schedule for a February 2018 opening.

With the guidance of Adolfson and Peterson Construction, the EVCC has now reached a completion level exceeding 75 percent.

“It is rapidly starting to look like a functional community center,” said Tom Carosello, Executive Director of Estes Valley Recreation and Park District. “The interior is getting distinct rooms and the space is looking larger now that the walls are in place.”

The primary roofing layers are completely installed, allowing the construction crew to continue making progress inside no matter what Mother Nature is creating outside.

The new natatorium, which is located between the original aquatics center and the new portions of the community center, will include a lazy river and zero-depth entry pool with play features. This area was the last space to have a dirt floor; excavation started on the lazy river October 18.

The double-sided fireplace located in the lower level lobby has been installed, and this lower level now has a distinct crescent shape where the reception desk will be located. The space for the robotic yogurt vendor and other vending machines has been drywalled. The drywall is finished in the community rooms and counters are being installed in the commercial kitchen. Tile has been installed in the remodeled locker rooms of the original aquatics center.

Light fixtures are already hanging throughout the facility—from the new-age lights in the aquatics center to the large halogen lights in the gymnasium.

The landscaping company has started planting the trees in the natural area in the front of the community center and the curbs have been poured in the parking lot.

“We have reached a point where the announcements will become regular regarding the progress of the building as we move into the final phases of construction,” said Teresa Jackson, Manager of Community Center Operations. “We have instructors lined up for classes, plans are started for grand openings and we are already fielding calls about memberships. It is a wonderful time to be involved with the Estes Park community.”

In addition to the remodel of the pool, the new community center will also feature:
•    Cubz Den, a children’s play area with Rocky Mountain themed wildlife, a river painted on the floor, and a cabin where kids can play
•    AquaClimb KURVE, a deep water solo climbing experience for all ages
•    a natural color palette with modern tones for everything from wall paint to carpeting to tiles in the locker rooms
•    library amenities provided courtesy of the Estes Valley Library District
•    a golf simulator featuring well-known courses, such as Pebble Beach and St. Andrews
