The Estes Valley Aquatic Center is happy to offer a variety of swim lessons year-round! Our group lessons use a specially designed curriculum developed for our facility. Lessons provide students with a positive learning experience while teaching lifelong swimming skills and water safety. Swim lessons are divided into two divisions: Pre-School and Learn-to-Swim. Please read the following descriptions to identify which level to register your child. If you are unsure of their level, please call (970) 586-2340 to schedule a free pre-test with one of our instructors.
Pre-School Division (for children who have not yet started kindergarten)
Chipmunks (3yrs - 5yrs)
This class is our introductory pre-school swim lesson level. Instructors will focuses on basic water skills, entering and exiting the water independently, and teaching the importance of water safety. Students will work on bubbles, submersion and swimming with equipment.
Ground Squirrel (3yrs - 5yrs/must pass Chipmunk)
This pre-school level is designed to help continued water comfort and floating. Instructors will work with participants to develop more independence in the water and work with students to achieve water skills without instructor support. Students will use basic water equipment and receive an introduction to the deeper water. Each session will include time in life jackets and a discussion on the importance of water safety.
Beavers (3yrs - 5yrs/must pass Ground Squirrel)
This pre-school level is designed to continue the development of our young swimmers' abilities in the water. Students will work on independent swimming as well as jumping into the pool and working on front and back crawl. Instructors will encourage students to swim greater distances in the pool and discuss the importance of water safety.
Marmot (3yrs - 5yrs/must have passed Beavers)
This is our highest pre-school level. Students will work on independent swimming and stroke development. Instructors will work with students to swim a full 25 yards on their front and back. This level also provides an introduction to breaststroke and dolphin kick.
Learn-To-Swim Division (for children who are school aged)
Fox (5 years and up)
This class is our introductory Learn to Swim level. Students will work on water comfort and body position in the water as well as the foundation for the front crawl. This class is perfect for kids looking to start to understand the basics of swimming and water safety. Instructors will focus on floating and independent movement in the water. Each session will include time in life jackets and a discussion on the importance of water safety.
Coyote (5 years and up/must have passed Fox)
This Learn to Swim level is designed to support the continued development of water independence as well as work on floating and kicking. Students will work on body position and developing confidence in the water. Instructors will introduce various pieces of water equipment and work on strokes. This class focuses on front and back crawl and independent kicking.
Grey Wolf (5 years and up/must have passed Coyote)
This Learn to Swim level is designed to build students' endurance and continue the development of their front and back crawl. This level will also introduce diving, competitive swimming skills, breastroke and dolphin kick. Partcipants will work to swim 25 yards on their front and back.
Hawks (5 years and up/must have passed Grey Wolf)
This Learn to Swim level is designed to continue stroke proficiency as well as provide basic competitive swimming skills. Students will work on swimming distance, using fins and other swim pool equipment. Instructors will introduce technique work and continued development of the breaststroke and dolphin kick.
We also offer diving classes! If you're a beginner or advanced diver, we can work with you! The Estes Park Aquatic Center is pleased to have Colorado 4A-2016 Diving Coach of the Year, Bill Kanter, on staff. Bill took three divers in 2016 to the state competition and each finished in the top five and two divers are going in 2017.
