Youth Centers Awarded Grants to Libraries

State Grants to Libraries (SGtL) funds are awarded each year to support efforts to improve literacy and learning. The Institutional Library Development program received 11 proposals from six Division of Youth Services (DYS) libraries. Each of the six libraries received at least one award, ranging from $200 to $800 each. The applicants demonstrated a need for materials and provided plans to measure impact on patrons.

Connecting DYS Parents with their Children

The few dozen paper ornaments hanging from the Christmas tree in the lobby of the state human services department were gone in little more than an hour last year.
Employees snatched them up, eager to buy the requested gifts: a box of diapers, a warm coat, a baby doll. Like most other giving trees, this one’s branches were filled with the wishes of needy children. Except these were the infants, toddlers and preschoolers whose parents were locked up in youth detention centers throughout Colorado. Read the full story here

DYS Breaks Ground on New Youth Services Center

Lt. Gov Donna Lynne and other local dignitaries joined CDHS Executive Director Reggie Bicha and Division of Youth Services (DYS) Director Anders Jacobson as the DYS broke ground Oct. 3 on a new youth services center to replace the current Adams Youth Services Center. The new facility will increase the department’s capacity to serve the 17th Judicial District, one of the state’s fastest-growing juvenile populations.
