According to Miller, this was the first semi-nice opening day in several years.
“We often have to postpone the opening due to wind and/or snow,” said Miller. “We couldn’t have asked for a better way to start this momentous season—other than maybe with a little less wind.”
The course had its busiest opening day in recent memory with more than 50 percent of the tee times booked prior to the first tee off. More than 500 players came out to take advantage of the $19.18 centennial special for the opening day, with players coming up to Estes Park from as far away as Denver.
EVRPD will be celebrating the course’s 100th birthday throughout the season, which runs through October 31, 2018. There are multiple specials and promotions planned, including promotions running with the theme of 100 and 1918 as well as a centennial golf tournament on July 4, 2018. The pro shop is offering special discounts through April 30, including on centennial memorabilia items such as golf balls, blankets and pint glasses.
Another great way to get involved in this historical season is to join the Estes Park Men’s and Women’s Golf Associations. The men’s league started regular play on April 16; the women’s league starts on May 8. The leagues play weekly at the 18-hole course; men on Mondays at 6:30 a.m. and women on Tuesdays at 8 a.m.
There is also a Lake Estes Men’s Golf Club, which plays at the Lake Estes 9-Hole Golf Course. They will start their summer season on May 21 and play every Monday through August 27.
