Evergreen Metropolitan District’s Statement Regarding Downtown Evergreen Water Main Break: December 1 & 2, 2018

Evergreen Metropolitan District’s Statement Regarding Downtown Evergreen Water Main Break:  December 1 & 2, 2018

Evergreen Metro District would like to thank our downtown businesses for their support and patience during this past weekend’s water main break on Highway 74.  Numerous businesses brought our crews coffee, food and beverages throughout the day Sunday as they worked to repair the damaged water main.  Our employees greatly appreciated this gesture.  We did our best to restore water to the majority of businesses by the early morning hours on Sunday.

This was a significant main break as an approximate six-foot section of the underground pipe opened. Three of our water storage tanks emptied within an hour.  Our crews worked through the night, and finished the water main repair and temporary road restoration by 5:30 Sunday evening.  EMD, in coordination with CDOT, will be cleaning Highway 74, and adjacent walkways/parking areas throughout this week.

Some may experience air and/or some dirty water in their plumbing. Water may initially be yellowish or reddish in color. These are naturally occurring minerals (manganese and iron) dissolved in the water, and is not detrimental to health.  If you experience this, please run the cold water tap at the highest point in your home until the air is gone and water has cleared up. Unfortunately, flushing from our fire hydrants is not practical or safe during periods of freezing temperatures.  Also, this would not clear any dirty water from service lines to businesses and homes.  EMD will continue with our monthly routine water quality testing this week.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this emergency.
