Buying a new energy efficient home or retrofitting a home at the time of sale can help Colorado consumers lower their home ownership cost from day one. Since 2010, the Colorado Energy Office (CEO) has been working to include energy efficiency information in the home buying process. To help remove these barriers, CEO is working on three initiatives: developing energy efficiency fields in the Colorado’s MLS systems, working with appraisers to complete valuation studies, and promoting the HERS Index Rating System for New Homes and in building codes. Together, these programs will help answer questions such as:
» What makes a home energy efficient?
» Do energy efficiency improvements add value to a home?
» Are Coloradans interested in efficient homes?
