The Colorado Energy Office (CEO) works to help Colorado consumers save energy and lower their home energy costs. By educating consumers, as well as the real estate, appraisal, and lending communities, CEO aims to transform the home buying process by having energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades valued in the real estate transaction. To that end, CEO promotes the adoption of home energy ratings such as the Home Energy Score for existing homes and the HERS Index for new homes, both of which provide valuable information about a home's energy performance and enable the market to compare similar homes. CEO has worked with appraisers to conduct valuation studies that assess the impact of green features on a home's value. CEO has partnered with the real estate community to develop energy efficiency fields in Colorado's MLS systems and to encourage brokers to include energy information in home listings.
