Back in my senior year of high school I decided to enroll into the DVR/SWAP program. I decided to join SWAP because my tutor had recommended it to my parents and I wanted to have some help finding a career path. I was previously employed at Chick-Fil-A from October of 2011-October 2012 and wasn’t satisfied with it, then when Chick-Fil-A told me to take a leave of absence throughout my junior and senior year of high school; I decided it was time to find a way to get a career. Throughout my time with SWAP, my coordinator James Craig has helped me to achieve the goals I wanted to achieve; I was able to get out of the Chick-Fil-A job, and hired on at King Soopers as a courtesy clerk and really enjoyed it.
Shortly after I started working at King Soopers, I wanted to move into a cashier position. I let Mr. Craig know about my goal and he thought it was a good idea so we started to look into what I would need to do to reach my goal. However, at the King Soopers that I was working at, I felt that, that opportunity was not going to happen. I talked to James and let him know about my concerns and about what my employer had to say about me becoming a checker. After talking to Mr. Craig, I came to the conclusion that perhaps transferring to a different store where I could have a better opportunity for advancement and relationships with management might be the way to go. I transferred on Aug. 23, 2015 the transfer has been successful and I am now a checker and just got a raise and am eligible for benefits. Mr. Craig still checks in with me and my managers to see how things are going. To this day I have been more successful working at the new King Soopers and achieved my goal to become a checker! I would not have done any of this without the help of SWAP and Mr. Craig.
