Dana Shea-Reid

Director of the State Personnel Board

Dana Shea-Reid was appointed director of the State Personnel Board in October 2012 and is responsible for the efficient, effective and elegant management of this constitutionally-created agency.  

Prior to joining the Board staff, she served as a State Personnel Board member for 5 years, having been appointed by Gov. Bill Ritter and completing her term in June 2012. She was most recently the chief human resources and employment officer for a Denver-based nonprofit organization with a mission of employing military veterans.

Dana has more than 20 years of experience in public sector human resources administration, having worked for Colorado municipalities since 1982 and an additional 3 years experience working as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Workers Compensation. She also has provided pro bono management consulting for a Navajo-operated nonprofit in Shiprock, New Mexico.

Dana has broad experience in grievance and disciplinary procedures for classified employees and employees operating under collective bargaining agreements. She has served as an assessor in police and fire promotional assessment centers and has also assisted area agencies in developing internal assessment centers for hiring and promotions.

Dana obtained her master’s degree in nonprofit management from Regis University and previously attended the University of Colorado-Denver Graduate School of Public Affairs, where she completed three years of graduate studies in public administration. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico. She has maintained a long-term professional association with the International Association of Public Management-Human Resources (IPMA-HR) and the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is a member of the Colorado Nonprofit Association.

In the community, Dana has a long history of volunteer service for local nonprofits, including the Jefferson County Action Center and Family Tree, Inc., where she also served as a board member and human resources chair. She participated as member of the scholarship review committee for the Daniels Fund, and is a founding board member and former officer of the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame. Dana is married, has an adult son and lives in Lakewood, Colorado.
