Statement from the Colorado Civil Rights Division on the U.S. Supreme Court hearing of oral arguments in Masterpiece Cakeshop Ltd v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission

U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on December 5, 2017

DENVER - (Dec. 5, 2017) -- The Colorado Civil Rights Division, part of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, is a neutral fact-finding agency for the State of Colorado that investigates charges of discrimination in the areas of employment, housing and public accommodations. It is charged with investigating claims of illegal discrimination. Discrimination is defined as adverse treatment based on a person’s protected class. As such, CCRD has an obligation to investigate charges of public accommodations discrimination as it relates the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act. 

We remain dedicated to the law and the mission of the Colorado Civil Rights Division as the Supreme Court of the United States analyzes the arguments presented in this case.
