Surgical assistant Carlos Hernandez-Fernandez summarily suspended and ordered to cease and desist the unlicensed practice of medicine

DENVER (Aug. 23, 2016) – On August 4, 2016, the Director of the Division of Professions and Occupations, Office of Surgical Assistant and Surgical Technologist Registration, summarily suspended the registration of Denver-based Surgical Assistant Carlos Hernandez-Fernandez, meaning he may not practice. Also on August 4, 2016, the Colorado Medical Board ordered Mr. Hernandez-Fernandez to immediately cease and desist the unlicensed practice of medicine.

According to the Summary Suspension and Cease and Desist Order, Mr. Hernandez-Fernandez allegedly performed surgery on a patient at Hernandez Fernandez Care located at 424 South Federal Blvd.  Surgical Assistants are not authorized to perform surgery according to state law.  Surgery is considered the practice of medicine requiring the person performing surgery be licensed as a physician.
