DORA Executive Director Joe Neguse appoints Patricia Salazar as State Financial Services Commissioner
DENVER - (Oct. 26, 2015) - Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Executive Director Joe Neguse announced today that he has appointed Patricia Salazar as the state’s new Commissioner of Financial Services and Director of the Division of Financial Services at DORA. Salazar starts in her new role on November 12.
The Division of Financial Services protects consumers by regulating and supervising state-chartered Credit Unions and Savings and Loan associations, administering and enforcing the Savings and Loan Public Deposit Protection Act, and regulating certain financial activities of life care institutions.
Salazar comes to DORA from California’s financial services regulator, the Department of Business Oversight, where she served as a deputy commissioner, responsible for public affairs, policy development, performance planning, and managing the department’s consumer services office. Previously she served as the state legislative and regulatory lobbyist for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues. Prior to joining the trade association, she served as a consultant to the organization on public affairs and strategies related to federal and state legislation affecting the credit union industry.
“We look forward to Patricia joining the DORA team and putting her experience with credit unions to work for the people of our great state,” said Executive Director Neguse. “Her knowledge of financial services regulation will bring us new perspectives in our ongoing efforts to reduce regulatory burdens, cut ‘red-tape’ and support economic growth for our state-chartered credit unions, all of which contribute to and serve a vital role in Colorado communities.”
“I’m excited to join DORA to assist accomplishing its important mission of protecting consumers and reducing regulatory burdens so that our financial services industry can continue to thrive here in Colorado,” said Salazar.
Executive Director Neguse previously appointed former Financial Services Commissioner Chris Mykelbust as State Bank Commissioner in June 2015. Deputy Commissioner Mark Valente served as Acting Commissioner and will resume his position on November 12.
“I want to recognize Financial Services Deputy Commissioner Mark Valente for his steadfast work and commitment as Acting Commissioner of the division as we conducted our search,” Neguse said.
Salazar earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from California State University, Northridge.
