Denver 7 to feature DORA experts for ‘Get Wise About Consumer Protection’ day June 27

DENVER -- The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) continues its commitment to inform Coloradans about common scams, frauds and consumer protection issues and the resources that are available at DORA. Denver 7 has partnered with DORA to feature a day-long consumer protection series featuring DORA experts along with information about ways Coloradans can “Get Wise About Consumer Protection.”

Tune-in to Denver 7 on Thursday, June 27 or visit thedenverchannel.com to learn more about DORA and ways it helps to keep Colorado’s marketplace safe and thriving.

“We take our mission to protect Colorado consumers seriously. By empowering consumers with the information, we can help them make informed decisions,” noted DORA Executive Director Patty Salazar, who will be featured on the Denver 7’s Mile High Living program between 11:35 a.m. and noon. DORA staff will also address specific ways consumers can be more protected between 3 and 7 p.m.

DORA licenses and regulates approximately 900,000 individuals and businesses in Colorado. One in seven Coloradans in our workforce, as well as a variety of businesses, such as insurance companies, health care professionals, state-chartered financial institutions and more are licensed by one of DORA’s 10 divisions. Whether it be a pediatrician for a sick child, a financial adviser to assist in preparing for retirement, or a real estate agent to help sell your house, DORA encourages everyone to take a few minutes to check a professional’s license through our online resources available by visiting askDORA.colorado.gov

“Our vision is to have a fair and accessible marketplace where responsible businesses and professionals can thrive and, thereby, consumers are protected. When consumers suspect illegal or unethical activity by a licensed and regulated business or professional, they are able to file a complaint with DORA and we will investigate and take appropriate action, when necessary,” Salazar said.

DORA’s consumer information website, askDORA.colorado.gov, provides consumers with access to informational tools and resources, as well as how to file a complaint. DORA also provides an online customer chat function, and customer service representatives are available by phone or email to assist consumers with checking licenses, filing complaints, and locating information on regulated entities and professions.
