Colorado Board of Nursing issues summary license suspension for Kimberly Burgans
DENVER - (March 21, 2016) - Today, the Colorado Board of Nursing summarily suspended the Registered Nurse (RN) license of Kimberly Jeanne Burgans, meaning she may not practice in Colorado pending the Board’s investigation.
The suspension follows Burgans’s arrest by Summit County officials on Saturday, March 19, 2016. The Colorado Board of Nursing is a “closed” board under state statute (Section 12-38-116.5(9)(a)), and therefore state law does not allow the Board of Nursing to publicly discuss any particular complaint or investigation.
The Board takes very seriously any behavior that compromises patient safety.
The Colorado Board of Nursing is responsible for licensing nurses in the state and enforcing the State Nurse Practice Act. Drug diversion is grounds for discipline, including the revocation of a license.
