Money Recovered for Coloradans by the Division of Insurance

Money is returned to Colorado consumers primarily through the activities of the Division's Consumer Services and Market Regulation teams and the use of the Life Insurance Policy Locator.

2018: $19,977,530 

  • $7,836,068 - Consumer Services recoveries through investigations of consumer complaints
  • $6,380,378 - Benefits provided to beneficiaries through the Life Insurance Policy Locator
  • $5,761,084 - Money returned to consumers through the activities of the Market Regulation team
  • Fiscal Year 2017-18 Total (July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2018): $38,475,615

  • $11,340,345 - Consumer Services recoveries through investigations of consumer complaints
  • $1,775,974 - Benefits provided to beneficiaries through the Life Insurance Policy Locator
  • $21,682,010 - Money returned to consumers through the activities of the Market Regulation team

  • Complaints Against Insurers Annual Reports - data on complaints and recoveries 
  • Life Insurance Policy Locator - Consumer requests are encrypted and secured to maintain confidentiality. Participating insurers research requests and if a policy is found, will contact beneficiaries or their authorized representatives within 90 days. From Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway: "If you know, or even suspect, that there’s a policy out there that was your parent’s, grandparent’s, or someone else close to the family, I encourage you to log in and submit a request.”
