Patricia Salazar appointed as DORA's Deputy Executive Director

Patricia Salazar, Commissioner of Financial Services

DENVER - (Aug. 15, 2016) -  Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Executive Director Joe Neguse announced today that he has appointed current Financial Services Commissioner Patricia Salazar as the Department’s new Deputy Executive Director. Salazar will begin her new role as Deputy Executive Director effective August 22, 2016.

“In her time at DORA, Patty has truly demonstrated that she has both the knowledge and leadership skills necessary for the role of Deputy Executive Director of our Department,” said Neguse. “As Colorado’s Commissioner of Financial Services, Patty was able to successfully move the needle for the Division in significant ways, involving stakeholders in its rulemaking process early-on and greatly expanding the Division’s engagement efforts, including spearheading a month-long financial literacy awareness campaign involving multiple DORA divisions. I have no doubt she’ll bring the same energy and vision as our new Deputy Executive Director.”

Prior to being appointed Colorado’s Commissioner of Financial Services for the Division of Financial Services, Salazar previously served at California’s financial services regulator, the Department of Business Oversight, where she served as a deputy commissioner. She was responsible for public affairs, policy development, and communications. She also managed the department’s performance planning unit, consumer services office and statewide investor and financial education programs. Previously she served as the state legislative and regulatory lobbyist for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues. Prior to joining the trade association, she served as a consultant to the organization as well as other for-profit and nonprofit clients on public affairs and strategies related to local, state and federal legislation.

“I’m excited to continue my service to the people of Colorado as Deputy Executive Director of DORA,” said Salazar. “It has been my honor to have had the opportunity to serve as the Commissioner of Financial Services and to work with the talented staff of the Division of Financial Services. I look forward to stepping into this new role to further assist Executive Director Neguse with fulfilling DORA’s critical mission of consumer protection.”

Executive Director Neguse has appointed State Bank Commissioner Chris Myklebust, who had previously led the Division of Financial Services from 2006 to 2015, to serve as the Acting Commissioner of Financial Services while a search for a permanent successor is underway.
