Consumer Advisory: Additional public hearings scheduled for Xcel Energy’s request to increase rates for natural gas service

The Office of Consumer Counsel advises consumers of additional opportunities to be heard at upcoming public comment hearings

DENVER (Oct. 12, 2017) -- The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) wants to hear your opinions on Xcel’s proposed $139 million increase in your natural gas rates. Per a notification the PUC released on October 10 of public meetings to be held in Denver, Pueblo and Grand Junction, Xcel Energy customers have three additional opportunities to make statements that will inform the decision in this proceeding. The Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in the pending case previously held three public comment hearings in Denver, Pueblo and Grand Junction at the end of September.

The Colorado Office of Consumer Counsel (OCC), which advises and advocates on behalf of consumers regarding state-regulated utility costs, encourages Xcel gas customers to attend these public hearings and provide oral comments to the ALJ. The OCC previously advised consumers in June to be aware of Xcel’s request to increase prices to its natural gas consumers.

While the Public Utilities Commission provides official notification of its hearings, the OCC issues consumer advisories as a courtesy reminder of these meetings. The OCC does not hold the meetings and does not represent the PUC or the ALJ.
